Volunteer Deputy Safeguarding Officer
Chesterfield Foodbank is seeking to recruit a Volunteer Deputy Safeguarding Officer to support the organisation in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all service users (clients), volunteers and staff.
Role Purpose
The Volunteer Deputy Safeguarding Officer will support the Safeguarding Lead to ensure that safeguarding policies, procedures and standards are consistently upheld across all Foodbank centres and activities. The role provides additional capacity for responding to safeguarding concerns, maintaining accurate records, and supporting volunteers to follow best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a point of contact for safeguarding advice and low-level concerns
- Support the Safeguarding Lead with incident reporting and documentation
- Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and guidance
- Contribute to delivering basic safeguarding awareness to volunteers
- Escalate concerns appropriately and in a timely manner
- Provide cover for the Safeguarding Lead when required
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Person Specification
Essential:
- Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively
- Good judgement and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Reliability and commitment to safeguarding principles
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Willingness to undertake safeguarding training (Levels 3-4)
Desirable:
- Experience working with vulnerable people
- Previous safeguarding knowledge or training
- Experience in a community, support or charity setting
Training and Support Full training, supervision and ongoing guidance will be provided. This volunteer role offers an opportunity to develop experience in safeguarding within a well-established community charity.
Time Commitment
Flexible. Approximately 2–4 hours per week, with occasional additional time if responding to concerns.
