Fundraising Lead Trustee - Glasgow South West Foodbank (Glasgow)
Glasgow South West Foodbank has provided around 800,000 meals to people living in the South West of the City since it was set up in 2013.
Since last year it has been based in its own warehouse in the Govan area, delivering its services from five distribution points in local churches and community venues.
We have a team of four members of staff, headed up by our manager, and could not operate without their commitment or that of our volunteers, who make sure things run smoothly at each of our centres. We are reliant for the vast majority of our income on corporate and individual donors, with the remainder coming through trusts and grant making bodies.
We are part of the Trussell Trust network and are one of their Pathfinder Foodbanks, exploring ways of delivering services more effectively to our clients to resolve the issues they face, and ultimately reduce their need to come to us. Under the Pathfinder Programme we have contracted partners to deliver an advice service, and a links worker service, and have also worked alongside Scottish Refugee Council to explore how we, and other foodbanks, can better meet the needs of asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants. We are also heavily involved in work in the city aimed at tackling food insecurity through Glasgow Fair Food for All Partnership.
We are seeking three new trustees to become members of our board. We are looking for:
- Most importantly, people who share our commitment to delivering the best possible compassionate and non judgemental service to some of the most disadvantaged people in Glasgow.
- People with some understanding of issues around poverty, even if not in depth, and willingness to extend that.
- People with experience at management/ professional level within the third, public or private sectors.
- Ideally, but not essentially for the non chair roles, people with experience of involvement in non executive boards in the third, public or private sector.
- People who can commit to six board meetings per year.
