Warehouse assistant (North Liverpool Warehouse Volunteer)
Acting as the link between food donations coming in and reaching those in crisis, you’ll support the smooth running of your local food bank. You’ll be part of a team sorting and packing food and additional items in the warehouse. You’ll be organised and have an eye for detail; this includes checking, weighing and recording stock and sorting food by date and type. This is a physical role as you’ll be on your feet a lot and you must be comfortable with some heavy lifting and maintaining a clean and safe warehouse.
We would be lost without our team of amazing volunteers and all the work they do.
Our volunteers are a great mix of people of all ages and backgrounds. Some have set times each week they come in and other prefer to pop in when they can. Could you join our incredible team?
A Warehouse volunteer is responsible for varied daily tasks such as restocking shelves, accepting incoming orders, processing and packing orders, counting inventory and ensuring orders are ready for delivery.
A good Warehouse volunteer should be able to work in a team environment and have a great work ethic. The ideal skills are the ability to coordinate, organize and plan. Being dependable with excellent time management and friendly is a huge asset.
**Warehouse Volunteer responsibilities include: **
Preparing and completing warehouse orders for our Foodbanks.
Receiving and processing warehouse stock (pick, unload, weigh, check, label, store)
Date and quality checking all donations and incoming stock to ensure quality.
Storing items correctly and safely.
Keep a clean and safe working environment and optimise space utilisation.
Performing warehouse inventory by accurately weighing items and recording incoming and outgoing stock information that can be used for our database, reports and audits.
Receive donations from the public and take details so we can send thank you correspondence.
Report any discrepancies to the food team members.
Attend team meetings to give feedback and work together to make a better working environment.
Attend sporadic food supermarket drives to increase donations.
Communicate and cooperate with supervisors and other warehouse and van volunteers.
Ensuring health and safety and keeping quality standards high.
Follow quality service standards and comply with procedures, rules and regulations.
**Requirements and skills **
Good organisational and time management skills
Ability to lift heavy objects safely & use steps (manual handling information will be given).
Interact and collaborate with other warehouse and van teams.
Flexibility happy to cover shifts if available.
Work as a team, sometimes alongside corporate volunteers.
