Welcome Volunteer (Welcome Volunteer - East Lothian Foodbank)
We are changing how we do things at the Foodbank to create a more people-centred, welcoming environment. As part of this, individuals using our service will have the option to choose their own food parcels with our ‘pick your own’ session, giving them greater choice. We will also be introducing a new low-cost food club, as a move on from crisis food support. As a Welcome Volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting people using our service. You will be one of the first friendly faces visitors meet, helping to create a warm, respectful, and welcoming environment. You’ll spend time talking with visitors, understanding their situation, and signposting them to additional support where needed.
Key responsibilities:
• Welcome visitors and help them feel at ease • Sit with visitors, listen, and engage in supportive conversation • Make a hot drink for visitors to the foodbank • Offer a listening ear • Signpost visitors to relevant services using available resources • Support with ‘Pick your own’ and ‘Food club’ sessions • Work under the guidance of the Food & Logistics Manager • Report any safeguarding or health & safety concerns appropriately • Attend training sessions provided by the foodbank
