Supermarket Collection Volunteer

When: 26 November, 27 November, 28 November 9am – 5pm

Time commitment: Shifts are 2 to 4 hours long

Opportunity Description

Trussell supports a network of over 420 food banks to provide a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing hardship in the UK. In 2025, we distributed over 2.6 million three-day emergency food parcels to people facing hunger and hardship, and more than 910,000 of these went to children.

It has never been so critical that food banks are able to support those in need, and with the support of our fantastic partner Tesco, you will give your local food bank a boost in food, funding, and awareness that will help us carry out our vision to end the need for food banks in the UK.

Key tasks:

· greeting customers

· offering guidance and leaflets on the best items to donate

· engaging with customers to raise awareness about the food bank

· receiving food donations

· thanking customers and explaining where their donation is going

· sorting food ready for delivery back to the food bank

· loading and unloading the collection van.

About you:

· comfortable approaching people to ask for a food donation

· positive, friendly, and enthusiastic

· motivated to get involved in your community.

Impact of your role:

· maximising food donations to the food bank

· raising awareness of the food bank in your local community

· supporting your food bank.

  • Click on the link for the food bank you would like to support. This will take you to the contact page on their website.

  • Complete the contact form with your details and send it to the food bank.

  • Wait for them to get in touch. The food bank will contact you directly with further information.
