Food bank Centre Volunteer - Brent

During the session Vestry warehouse volunteers work in a team of 3-5 to put together emergency food parcels containing 3 days’ worth of food and snacks into boxes and bags for food bank clients, according to a list which has been drawn up by a nutritionist. It is a physical role and an induction on health and safety will be given as well as training on safe lifting practices.

Signposting volunteers provide longer term support during sessions by listening to people’s issues and connecting them with the appropriate support agencies and services. They also process and fulfil vouchers by entering details to the online database and listing food choices. They work with a team of 2-3 other signposting volunteers under the guidance of the shift lead. Training for this role involves shadowing an experienced volunteer for a few weeks and accessing an online signposting course.
