Distribution Centre Volunteer

Opportunity image

Hackney Foodbank is aiming to achieve no less than a hunger-free Hackney, where everyone can afford to eat. We support people who are in crisis or trapped in poverty with compassion and dignity. We do this by providing emergency food parcels, which offer practical, immediate relief in moments of crisis, and by connecting people with local organisations who can help them to address the root causes and wider effects of poverty in their lives.

As a Distribution Centre volunteer you will help with running the foodbank sessions by:

  • setting up and packing away the session including moving tables/chairs, food parcels and additional items

  • proving a warm welcome to visitors and offering/preparing tea, coffee and biscuits

  • selecting the appropriate food parcel for visitors and offering/collecting additional items like fresh fruit & veg, toiletries, sanitary products, nappies etc

  • keeping the area tidy and cleaning down tables

This role can involve some heavy lifting, up to 20kg

We would ideally like volunteers who can commit to a minimum of one 3-hour shift per week.

As a volunteer you will play a vital role in our foodbank ensuring that we are meeting the demand for our services, providing help and support to people in crisis in the local community.
