Induction training is rolled out every 3 months, so if you can't make this date please keep an eye out for future dates or contact volunteers@tottenham.foodbank.org.uk and they will add you to the wait list. Please note that inductions take place on selected Saturdays and run from 10.30am-2.30pm. Lunch is provided.

The induction will provide you with an in-depth understanding of what the Trussell Trust is, how Tottenham food bank operates, what goes into a parcel, the different roles within the food bank centre, safeguarding etc. This will not only give you a much better understanding of the Food Bank and its role in the community, but also the knowledge and understanding to confidently take on this vital volunteer role.

Role Description

As a Food bank centre volunteer, you will play a vital role giving direct support to people who use food banks. In this role you can make a real difference to people’s lives providing help to those in crisis in your local community. The role consists of the following;

  • Welcome clients to the foodbank centre.
  • Receive vouchers, check validity, and prepare food parcels according to the standard packing lists.
  • Make refreshments and tidy up as required during the session.
  • Offer a listening ear and signpost clients, as required, to further support, using information from the signposting folder/leaflets.
  • Work under the guidance of the session leader and report any health & safety or safeguarding concerns to the project manager/session supervisor

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be able to volunteer on Mondays between 11.45am and 2.15pm
  • Must be able to volunteer a minimum of twice a month for period of at least 6 months.
  • Must sign up for training shift within a month of induction.
